For reasons unknown to her doctors, Karina’s kidneys began to fail when she was 9 years old. This very serious diagnosis of ‘end-stage kidney disease’ initiated a long journey for Karina and her devoted family — and for the RVF.

Hugo was 13 when he was introduced to the RVF in 2005. His diagnosis was trichiasis, a condition in which the eyelashes grow inward. Although his vision was normal, for many years his eyes suffered from chronic and severe irritation and infections.

The daughter of a single mother who had worked for years cleaning CSRA clinics, Sarah was long recognized as a bright child with a great deal of potential. It was therefore disappointing that Sarah was only sixteen years old when she learned that not only was she pregnant, she was pregnant with twins.
