Karen’s parents first became concerned when, as a baby, she had unusual movements and was found to have hydrocephalus on a brain scan. Though her seizures resolved with medication, Karen has struggled to meet milestones—she spoke her first word at age four and learned to walk at five. She has been diagnosed with intellectual disability and developmental delay, and her speech is mostly understood only by her mother. Her family came to La Escuelita seeking support for her speech and learning challenges. RVF will help by arranging a speech therapy evaluation and ensuring she receives the educational and developmental support she needs to thrive.
