Eva was the first child born to a young couple starting a family together. When Eva’s mother was 30 weeks pregnant, she suffered a life-threatening encounter with a stranger, and the trauma of this event resulted in early labor and delivery. Although Eva was born healthy, she developed a high fever and seizures at six months. At eight months, her parents noticed that she was not developing normally. Relatively immobile until she began to crawl at 4 years of age, Eva never learned to walk. Ultimately, she was diagnosed with cerebral palsy due to the brain injury she had suffered as a baby. The RVF is optimistic that with regular physical therapy and the right equipment and support, Eva may be able to walk one day.
