As is sometimes common with children diagnosed with autism, Jose was diagnosed later in childhood. He was 10 years old when a neurologist named the condition responsible for his lack of speech and social development. In addition, Jose was also diagnosed with an intellectual disability. His grandfather “Don Cucu”, who has cared for him since his parents left to work in Chile when Jose turned 5, is so grateful to the Rosa Vera Fund for being able to provide special education and speech therapy. His dream would be for Jose to be able to communicate with others more fluently.
