Ana Margarita was a healthy, robust baby when she was born in 2005. By the age of 6 months she had reached key developmental milestones, but due to a severe infection she suffered developmental and intellectual disabilities. Ana’s young mother soon found herself alone, abandoned by Ana’s father. RVF Community Health Workers learned about Ana and knew that the Fund could help. Ana now attends La Escuelita several times a week for intensive physical and speech therapy, as well as special education. Ana’s aunts have stepped in to watch her a few days a week so Ana’s mother can work to support her small family.
